Educational Program

Introduction

Our Educational Program conceptualizes and carries out different projects to fulfill our mission of approaching, professionalizing, experimenting with, and discussing the visual arts, as well as to dialogue with other artistic and non-artistic disciplines.

Our projects develop in the field of non-formal education, from creative spaces where all participants can share the aesthetic experience and be enriched and express themselves. The learning involved in these projects is significant learning: that is, what is known, researched, and experienced represents something transformational to everyone.

The Educational Program takes into account the different angles for action and thinking that we can use to approach art: production, collecting, sales, theory, restoration, exhibition, expectation, museography, curating, and teaching, among others. Based on those links, we develop our programs.

We are working on three parallel projects:

  • Research
  • Encuentros
  • Plantel Matilde

Research

We conceive of research as open-ended, on-going, and formal.

Through an educational research project, with a representative sample and an anthropological method combining the quantitative and the qualitative, we critically and formally analyze the circumstances of young artists and art students enrolled in higher education in Mexico. The results are the starting point from which we establish programs directly aimed at contributing to overcome the difficulties we find in our study.

Our aim is to develop other projects involving art criticism, theory, and history, and everything that might be of interest and a contribution to the thinking and discourse of contemporary art.

Encuentros

This is a space to facilitate artists-in-training coming together with experts who have already made their way in their fields. It becomes an experience of reflection, dialogue, and experiences to build the real principles needed in thinking about, making, and the work involved in the visual arts.

Plantel Matilde

This is a laboratory for ideas and artists-in-residence, nestled in the Yucatán jungle, which supports and practice and experience of artistic and creative projects in different disciplines. This project will have an impact on the cultural development of the Sac Chich community, where it is located.

Publications

Research, the creation of knowledge, and experimentation carried out through our different programs, give rise to publications with which we seek to produce support materials for emerging artists, researchers in the field of the arts, cultural anthropologists, academics, etc. They also provide a space for experimentation and a form of transcendent communication that will allow us to spark new dialogues and put forward different scenarios for creative activity.
